In 2008 the Limburgs Symfonie Orkest (the Limburg Symphony Orchestra) celebrated its 125th anniversary and is thus one of the oldest professional symphony orchestra in the Netherlands. The Limburgs Symfonie Orkest has more than a hundred performances per season and holds a prominent place in the province’s cultural life. In addition to their symphony performances they also accompany Opera Zuid, work with various choirs and have an extensive educational program. The orchestra is subsidized by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, the province of Limburg and the city of Maastricht, and also their large and loyal association of friends has supported them for years.

Since 2001, Ed Spanjaard has been the orchestra’s head conductor and artistic advisor. Ed Spanjaard and the orchestra are known for their extensive repertoire with both famous and lesser-known works and contemporary music. In addition to the larger cities in the province of Limburg the orchestra also regularly performs on big stages in the Netherlands and the Euregion.
