't Rooth Quarry

The ’t Rooth Quarry is a marl pit where marl is extracted by opencast mining. The quarry has been partially renovated and has grown into a unique nature reserve where various rare plant- and animal species have been able to develop. In the quarry visitors learn about all kinds of aspects of marl. There’s a small exhibition which shows geological discoveries in the quarry and products in which marl is used. Unfortunately the possibilities to find fossils aren’t very extensive at the moment because of changes in mining methods.

Situated on the Margraten plateau, north of the village of Cadier en Keer and south of the hamlet 't Gasthuis.

Opening hours

The gate to the quarry opens each Sat at 9:00 and closes at 15:30 from Easter Sat to Oct. During the winter months the quarry is accessible until 12:00. Free access. All activities start from the small office at the entrance of the quarry.
