The major international antiquarian book fair Maastricht Antiquarian Book & Print Fair (MABP) will be held in Maastricht for the fifth time on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th March, the first two days of TEFAF. For the fifth time, Maastricht's gothic Sint Janskerk (Church of St. John) will become an Aladdin's cave for collectors and lovers of antiquarian books and engravings. Around thirty renowned antiquarian book traders from the Netherlands and abroad will present the most valuable and interesting items from their collections to Maastricht.
Not only the seasoned collector of illuminated manuscripts, old prints and rare engravings will find treasures here; the more modest collector will also encounter plenty of attractions to look at and possibly buy. Every exhibitor will be bringing his or her own specialised items, ranging from mediaeval manuscripts to treats for bibliophiles, from books about photography, avant-garde items and architecture to modern art.
Graatsma and Slothouber in Four Sides
This year, the cultural fringe programme chosen for the MABP is entitled "Graatsma en Slothouber in vier Kanten" (Graatsma and Slothouber in Four Sides). Under this title, various exhibitions will be held in locations in the city from 10 March to 21 April 2012 , shedding light on the work of William Graatsma and Jan Slothouber. These designers, who worked for DSM, caused a furore in the 1960s and 1970s with their provocative constructions and designs, bordering on art.
