Ernestina, the daughter of a rich merchant, is not for the first making mischief to avoid the arranged marriages that her father is trying to impose on her. All the more so since she has fallen in love with Ermanno, whose main fault is that he is either poor or shy. Attractive enough, in any event, for his lover to pass herself off as a eunuch.
