Liège

Over the years Liège acquired the nickname ‘the Fiery City’. And not without reason because in the history books Liège is known for its old industry and the public’s need for freedom that brought prosperity to Wallonia half-way through the twentieth century. This prosperity can still be seen today in the tall houses, the monuments and museums that make Liege so beautiful. You only have to walk through Liège to see that impressive buildings are lined up alongside the water. Or in the entertainment centre ‘Le Carré’ where you will find many, many bars and buildings so high that the bars are literally built on top of each other. There are specific karaoke bars, such as the famous Jardin des Olivettes, bars with a wide assortment of beers, such as beer café Vaudrée, and bars where you can swing the night away, such as the Mama Roma Club. On a Sunday afternoon, you can stroll along the market ‘La Batte’ with an exiting mixture of regional and international products. Of course, you can also go for a lovely walk on the steps of Montagne de Bueren to fully enjoy the view of the city. There is also plenty of shopping to do in Liège. Many famous brands have a special store in Liège and you can find small shops with original products in the many alleys. If you are hungry after a day of sight-seeing there are plenty of places for you to choose from. Liège, like many other cities in the Euregio(n), is known for its exuberant dining. Whether you’re looking for a lively bar that serves food or a gastronomic restaurant, the Coeur Historique and the Le Carré area are full of all kinds of restaurants. And if you’re just interested in a snack, you should try the Liège specialty: a freshly baked Liège waffle. You can also continue on into the evening. Theatre de la Place or Opéra de la Wallonie offer an extensive program of shows, operas, and dance and music performances. Amusez-vous bien!
