The small, fun playground in Vaesrade also has a unique children’s farm: the building is an exact copy of the Roman villa ‘Rustica’ in Vaesrade around 200 AD. After a lot of brainstorming and research by volunteers and with the help of the Thermenmuseum (the Roman Baths Museum) in Heerlen, the building of the children’s farm was finished in 1986. Guinea pigs and pigeons live in the towers. Rabbits and chickens live in the main building, which also houses the delivery rooms and the indoor stable. They have come up with an ingenious way to fill the feeding racks: via pipes that start in the hayloft!
