This flagship stage with its intimate atmosphere is unusual. Not only is it the first theatre managed by a region, but it also continues today to make an important contribution to the cultural life of the region.

The theatre was founded in 1950 and moved to its new building in Aachen Elise Gallery in 1997, in which 218 spectators can experience, in immediate contact,  the very intimate productions are without a curtain.  In addition, guest performances are given throughout the region especially in the towns of Alsdorf, Baesweiler, Eschweiler, Herzogenrath, Monschau and Stolberg.

Each season offers eight productions, ranging from classics such as « Hamlet », modern drama and boulevard comedy to musicals such as « The Little Horror Shop ».

Since 2007, the theatre also offers a travelling theatre education program called « GRETA », with mobile school theatre productions, leading workshops and taking up schoolchildren’s spectacles into its programme.

With 98% ticket sales and long waiting lists for subscriptions, this flagship theatre occupies the second place in Germany.

Consequently, your best chance is usually to try for last-minute tickets on the evening of the performance.
